Cultivate

AGRiC CUltURe: Cultivation of Earth & Spirit
Jah Know: AgriCulture:
The new moon, the best time to plant seeds, both agriculturally and spiritually. Following the phases of the moon is an ancient practice that has found function and validity in agriculture. The New Moon gives energies for germination of seeds, growth, and innovation. This Month (moon), the Moon is in Aries. Aries energies promote New Beginnings. Self- Focus, Innocence and Authenticity, Self- Discovery, Independence, and Courage. Aries also marks the beginning of spring, and the true new year.
When I first came upon my faith as a Child of His Majesty, I was working at a Community Garden in West Africa, one of my elders told me , "Farming was the original occupation given to man by Jah." After the Most High Created man he gave him dominion and charged him to be caretaker of His Garden. My experience working at the garden gave me a unique relationship with the earth and my food. It also gave me many metaphors for self-determination and spiritual growth.
If we search though out world history, we will see a trend in advancement in all societies when agriculture is developed. The practice of agriculture gave InI ancestors the time and conceptual tools to develop both science and religion. Its is through their growing knowledge and relationship with the earth that our fore-parents established the great civilizations of the past. At the center of their culture, religion and science was balance and harmony with the earth.
On a Global scale Humanity (if you can call us that) has mostly abandoned this fundamental element of the human experience, especially in "the Big City." Present day society’s approach to agriculture is exploiting, instead of balancing or nurturing. There is a strong and powerful movement for the implementation of organic and sustainable agricultural practices, that is gain support as more people learn of the effects of processed and otherwise genetically altered foodstuffs.
It is my goal that through my experience this spring and summer I can bring more knowledge of agriculture, both organic and sustainable, back to our community. Also to encourage and find ways to bridge the gap between Our people Our God Our Mother, Earth. Jah bless & Swali Free
